The first site where roll call was done in the first years of the camp’s operation was the open area near the smith’s. Beyond traditional schedules of roll calls, mainly when returning from the mine, as well as when departing to work, roll call was done through an alarm notifying all prisoners to gather in the designated area. That was where prisoners were often held for hours (two to three hours), under the sun, rain or even icy frosts during winter. Prisoners had to stand straight as this process went on.

Whereas the two carters continued the reinforcement process, the miner hammered holes to put the explosive in and then detonate it after exiting the mine.  All of the rocky mass exploded by the dynamite would be the new work front for the successive shift. The second shift would follow the same routine as the first and then leave the area for the third.

After wagons were manually loaded, they were also pushed by hands for a distance of one kilometer to the exit of the tunnel on large heaps that were then transported through a mechanism on trucks. The prisoner returned to the work front with an empty wagon or wooden bodies with which he fortified the area of explosion, after all of the material was extracted.  The routine of description of this road with the wagon full of mineral and return to the front was done seven times per shift.

In Spaç, prisoners died from mine accidents, diseases or executions by guard soldiers in escape attempts. Their bodies were not returned to their families, instead they were buried by camp command in a place that was kept secret during the years of dictatorship and after the regime’s fall this burial site was found out to have been in Shpal, Mirdita. No name was put on the prisoners’ graves, only a number. Family members have found a part of their relatives’ graves in Spaç Camp according to the prisoner’s data, which were placed in a small glass bottle in the grave, near the victim’s head.

The tunnels’ entrance had small barracks with boards and sheet metal, which stored the prisoner’s working tools such as: axes, pickaxes, shovels, hammer drills, mining drills (hexagonal section rods of different lengths from 50 to 150 cm placed in the hammer and drilling holes where the explosive device would be put).Before entering the mine, the prisoners would be divided in groups of three, where one was a miner and two were carters.After taking their work tools, they would enter the tunnel and  go to the exploded area to start work.
